Dayboats
We have a large and varied fleet of dayboats availble at the centre. Due to the shallow waters between the islands all of our dayboats have centre plates rather than keels and are essentially large dinghys. They are capable of having an outboard engine fitted and offer the experienced sailior a fantastic oppertunity to explore the islands.
Skipper 17 (5-6 pers)
There are many variations of this craft on the market, some more effective than others. Both our Skippers have large steel centre plates and a covered fore deck for ample storage. They have self draining cockpits and offer a large comfortable area but still sail like a small dinghy. With roller reefing genoa and very shallow draft with the plate up they are incredibly popular and perfect for Scilly.
Drascombe Dabber (4-5pers)
A classical looking open dayboat, featuring a boomed gunter rig, jib and mizzen, they are great for cruising the islands and very stable. A fully retracting centre plate, when up, they float in ankle deep water. They make for the perfect Swallows & Amazons experience.
Laser 16
An excellant dayboat that sails well and very clearly a large dinghy. Has a fully retracting centre plate, plenty of room in the cockpit, outboard mount and large sealed forward locker. Capable of sailing with 5 persons but also easily sailed single handed in lighter winds. As there is a risk of capsize with this boat it must have the outboard stowed when sailing.
Falmouth Bass Boat (5pers)
A great stable and roomy open boat, excellant for day trips with plenty of room aboard.
Beaufort (5 pers)
Essentially a very large Wayfarer, with plenty of room a large sail area and a large metal centre plate. She sails brilliantly and is capable of taking an outboard. As there is a slight risk of capsize with this boat it must have the outboard stowed when sailing.
