2011 World Gig Sailing Champions

The gig Slippen battled high winds and heavy seas to win the World Championships on Monday.

Skippered by Ian Sibley, and crewed by Sailing centre Staff and Tim Dean. They sailed a tremendous race in the 181 year old boat to take line honours.

First few boats have got their feet wet and we are out of the blocks with the first couple of lessons!

Also taken a bold step into the unknown (for us!) and gone a bit modern and started a twitter account. Please follow us.

The winter seems to have flown by and the summer season is just around the corner. Bookings and enquiries are flooding in, so time to start thinking about what you would like to do this summer. Please note that at this time of year we are working all over the place so are not always available on the phone so please email your enquiry to sailing@sailingscilly.com

Some of the boats are taking off their winter coats and grabbing their lippy & make up ready to pretty themselves for the summer. The staff will hopefully start soon too (many will need longer to pretty themselves!). The majority of all our staff are returning this year again and a couple of real blasts from the past will be re-joining the crew (more to follow).

August 7, 2010 The first week of August is over already!!

July 28, 2010 A Blast from the Past
July has seen the return of Doug Holt our larger than life Aussie instructor from Northside Sailing in Sydney. Doug first came in the great invasion of Aussie staff in 2004 and returned this July for a holiday, but we managed to get him to do a turn on Tresco for old times sake. Rumours abound but he looks set for a more permanent return. Look out.

Another fantastic day on Scilly, not a cloud in the sky and just enough wind. Plenty of action on the beach today with a large school group.

Our first Stand-up paddle boarding lesson took place at Porthmellon. Matilda was very impressed by how quickly Amelia picked up the sport.

This is the latest watersport and is an excellent fitness work out, easy to pick up and a lot of fun.

Round Island Race kicked off August with a wet long drift around St. Mary's.
Good number of entries but alot of retirements due to poor vis and no wind. A pod of dolphins joined us off Deep point, Basking Sharks at Old Town and Sunfish at Peninis Head.
