Course Information

This RYA level one powerboat course is a one-day introduction to basic boat handling techniques and is ideal for someone who has never driven a powerboat but has always wanted to have a go.

This course can be run for juniors aged 11 to 16. It is a great way to get them interested in boating and install the principals of safe practice and vital sea safety. Please note it is a boat handling course not a “speed boat” driving course. There are elements of high speed manoeuvring covered but majority of practical boat handling covered is at slow speed.

The course will include the following:

  • Preparation of boat and crew
  • Launching & recovery
  • Pre-start checks
  • Boat handling
  • Picking up moorings
  • Leaving and coming alongside a quay and other boats
  • Basic theory of collision regulations
  • Rope work
